Finish-This Friday: Candlelight

Welcome to another Finish-This Friday! This prompt was found on Writers Write, a fun website that provides a variety of writing tips and suggestions. If you’re ever in need of inspiration, check it out!

Today’s prompt is simple but can be treated many different ways. It is:

The first thing that came to mind is a poem, so here we go!

The candle in the window

Shines its light for all to see

So even in the darkness

The lost souls can be free

That’s really all I want to write about it. I don’t know why, but it feels complete like that. For the sake of a longer blog post, I’ll try again.

Flicker through the shadows

And shine your guiding light

As we take our refuge

And hide out from the night

From your silent perch

Keep the shadows well at bay

As we sleep in comfort

And wait upon the day

When your job is done

And the dawn finally appears

We’ll thank you with our breath

And stop your waxy tears

There you go! How would you write about the candle in the window? Let me know in the comments below!

  1. Inspiring short poem. I love it and it means a lot to me in different ways. It reminds of my grandmother. Who always kept her kerosene lantern on the window in the village. So that whom soever sees it from afar will know that there is hope of refuge for the journey ahead. It gave hope to travellers, journey makers and lost people. So thanks a lot friend for this short inspiring poem. I loved it.
