Review of And the Stars Fell Silent by Trinity Roberts

…And the Stars Fell Silent by Trinity Roberts is a thrilling adventure in a post-apocalyptic world.

~~~~Some Spoilers Ahead!~~~~
Skylar’s life was a pretty typical one. She had a home in Seattle, a loving boyfriend, plenty of friends, and a brilliant scientist for a father. Skylar had the world at her feet and a bright future ahead of her.
But then the announcement came.
Top scientists, including Skylar’s father, have discovered that the sun was days away from exploding. To save some of the population, the president announced his plan to build four “Bio-domes” to house the best of the best, and Seattle was chosen as a location for one of those domes. While a good theory in practice, Skylar soon realizes that the truth of their situation was more  horrible than she could have ever imagined. After all, how could they survive in a darkened world full of chaos?
I really enjoyed this book! The characters were dynamic and had tons of chemistry, the dialogue was creative and moved the story along, and the settings were well described. While these are great points to have in a story, my favorite thing about this book was the sheer panic that dripped from every page. Unlike some other end-of-the-world stories, I feel like this one truly captures the fear and chaos that would erupt from something as devastating as having our sun explode. The story as a whole did a great job in showing how even the best plans can succumb to mass hysteria, and I was impressed at the character growth of everyone involved.
My only real complaint is that the book felt a little disjointed in spots where it jumped between present and past without warning. However, it did tend to work with the story overall since most of it was written from the point of view of a scared little girl, so it would make sense that some of her thoughts would mesh together in times of crises.
I give this book a solid 4 of 5. It has a great story, engaging characters, and a true grasp of end-of-the-world panic. A must read for any fans of apocalyptic scenarios!
